ELOQUII

Approximately 60% of adult American women wear a size 14 or larger, representing over $20 billion worth of buying power. While the untapped market potential has been – and still is – huge, plus-size fashion wasn’t really considered a “smash hit” in 2014. As a first mover in the industry ready to disrupt existing bias, the US label Eloquii emerged as the leading player in the now fastest growing segments in women’s apparel. In 2018, Eloquii was acquired by Walmart.

Eloquii was founded in 2011 as part of The Limited, but closed as a result of corporate restructuring only 18 months later, causing an outcry in the American plus-size community. With the help of former employees and its new CEO Mariah Chase, the brand relaunched in 2014 as an independent, vertically-integrated ecommerce business.

Since initial VC investments, Eloquii has more than tripled revenue growth, opened stores across the United States and established a superior NPS near 80 as well as new data-driven approaches to plus-size fitting.

By scanning catwalks, fashion blogs and lifestyle media for the latest trends and then translating these into fashionable plus sizes, the startup was breaking all unspoken rules in the industry. For its exceptional positioning, Eloquii was i.a. named one of the “World’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Style” by Fast Company.

In fall 2018, Eloquii was acquired by Walmart to join the growing digital-native portfolio of the world’s largest company by revenue.
