Our mission is to generate superior returns for our investors by funding and supporting pioneering companies that seek to create value for the long run. We invest into technology-enabled business with healthy unit economics and into founders that act in the pursuit of sensible and sustainable growth. To accomplish this mission, we embrace our responsibility not only towards investors and portfolio companies, but also towards stakeholders in the wider ecosystem in which the firm and its portfolio companies operate. Against that context, we believe that careful attention to Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) matters are a prerequisite for long-term value creation.
ESG MANAGEMENT
We manage ESG matters through a combination of committed participation on the boards of directors of our portfolio companies as well as ongoing monitoring of the progress of each company. We expect the board of directors of each portfolio company to ensure that ESG matters are properly addressed as needed. Management of portfolio companies is asked to nominate an employee at management level who bears responsibility for ESG matters in the company, and to dedicate board attention as needed but at least once per year. In addition, we integrate ESG matters along our investment decision-making at origination and due diligence stage.
PRINCIPLES
Our investing approach is aligned with the wider UN Principles for Responsible Investment. Thereunder, we encourage the management of our portfolio companies to consider the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the underlying principles when developing their own ESG strategies. We are committed to acting according to Invest Europe’s Handbook of Professional Standards and the International Private Equity and Venture Capital Valuation and Reporting Guideline (IPEV), both of which are an integral part of the Invest Europe Handbook.
As an active member of the Leaders for Climate Action Initiative we try to minimize our impact on the environment and fully compensate our CO2 footprint.
We support female entrepreneurs: About 22% of founders of our portfolio companies identify as female (as of September 2020). This makes us rank #1 amongst German VC funds
